To deepen and promote research and practice in low-carbon buildings, energy resilience, and other related areas, the Fund partnered with Beijing Jiaotong University to launch the “Research and Development Centre for Low-carbon Construction” project in 2021. The project aims to conduct research and practice on green and low-carbon technologies and successfully completed a disaster preparedness and relief-related facility development project in 2022. Future plans include expanding work to other provinces.

Cave dwelling comfort improvement and participatory sustainable water cycling system
In 2023, we will continue to support the team of teachers and students from Beijing Jiaotong University, with rural sustainable construction as the main goal, to carry out the improvement of comfort in cave dwelling(addressing ventilation, dampness, and other issues) and participatory sustainable water cycling systems for Zhou Shan Village’s House of Dreams in Dengfeng City, Henan Province.
Based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the team has proposed four sustainable construction target strategies: ecology(生态), participation(参与), culture(文脉), and numerical governance(数治).
The team has completed field surveys, environmental monitoring, and other research work. This summer, they have completed joint on-site construction with teams of teachers and students from the University of Hong Kong and Shenzhen University . The goal is to explore new paths suitable for sustainable participatory construction in rural areas through multi-disciplinary collisions and provide theoretical and practical support for sustainable rural development.
