The Rui’s Heritage House Transformed into Senior Activity Center Opens its Doors

The renovation project for “Rui’s Heritage House” in Wanjian Village, Anhui, which was funded, was initiated in April 2021. The heritage house underwent a renewal process and has now been transformed into a senior activity center. The center started its operations on April 1st, 2023. After two years, the project successfully completed the renovation and trial operation, and it now meets the basic requirements to function as a senior activity center, offering functional spaces such as a canteen, cinema room, handicraft room, and lounge, which are open to the villagers.

The project was jointly initiated by our Fund, CAUPD Beijing Planning and Design Consultants Ltd., Qianshan Civil Affairs Bureau, and Qianshan Wanjian Village Service Centre. It also collaborated with 12 institutions, including the research institute of Professor Li Bin of Tongji University, to explore new paths for revitalizing traditional village architecture, cultural heritage, active aging, and community development.
From a traditional house in a state of disrepair to a rejuvenated senior activity center, the ” Rui’s Heritage House” has been reborn. We hope that this project will not only provide a space and services for the local elderly and villagers but also serve as a starting point for exploring the way of the preservation of traditional villages, cultural heritage, and active aging models, in order to better promote community development and contribute to rural revitalization.
