Collaborating with Universities to Launch Research and Practice in Eco-Friendly and Low-Carbon Rural Architecture

In 2023, the Fund will continue to respond to the national “rural revitalization” strategy and promote various development projects in mainland China. In order to inherit and carry forward the traditional Chinese rural architecture culture, such as earth and bamboo, the fund has partnered with Kunming University of Science and Technology to initiate research on eco-friendly rural architecture technology.

This project aims to offer technical assistance for eco-friendly and low-carbon architecture in the construction of housing for villagers, community centers, and the renovation of traditional earth-based dwellings in Yunnan and Hunan. It will encompass various activities such as research and development, testing, structural design, training for craftsmen, on-site construction technology guidance, as well as the construction of demonstration projects, among others.(more details)

The partner’s project leader is Professor Bai Wenfeng from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Kunming University of Science and Technology. He has devoted years to researching sustainable rural architecture and has made numerous technological breakthroughs in the sustainable use of natural building materials and the application of modern technology to improve rural environmental adaptability. Professor Bai has successfully applied for over 100 patents for projects in provinces such as Sichuan, Hunan, and Yunnan.

The Fund aims to further its efforts towards rural revitalization by leveraging the expertise and resources of universities. Moving forward, it will seek to collaborate closely with various academic institutions to conduct research that blends theory and practice. The Fund is committed to encouraging and supporting university scholars to actively participate in rural revitalization, while also working alongside local villagers to chart a sustainable development path for rural areas.
